Did you know you can mail a coconut from Molokai? Instead of sending a postcard while you’re in Hawaii, send a coconut from the Ho’olehua Post Office!
Post-A-Nut was started in the 1990s and since then, more than 50,000 coconuts have been sent from Ho’olehua around the world! Coconuts are provided free, you just have to pay the shipping (usually around $10-$15 for US addresses). Send a Molokai coconut to friends and family back home, or send one to yourself as a memento of your Molokai trip. They make unique gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, or simply to say Aloha.
When you arrive at the Ho’olehua Post Office, choose a coconut from one of the bins. You can decorate the coconut with the provided pens so be sure to choose a coconut which can accommodate your intended design.
Address the coconut then hand it over to Postmaster Gary Lam. He will weigh the coconut and calculate shipping before applying some fun and colorful stamps. Then the coconut will be on its way!
You can also purchase a pre-decorated coconut at Kalele Bookstore in Kaunakakai. Teri Waros, owner of Kalele Bookstore, paints beautiful designs ranging from Hawaiian flowers to Finding Nemo.
Post-A-Nut has been a celebrated tradition for visitors and locals alike, but a little while ago there was talk of shutting it down. Fortunately fans rallied to keep it open and the Ho’olehua Post Office is still there for you to mail that special package. Stop by and say Aloha to Gary Lam and mail a coconut!
The Ho’olehua Post Office is located at 69-2 Puupeelua Ave near Maunaloa Hwy. The office is open Monday – Friday from 8:30-4pm, but closed 12-12:30. (808) 567-6144
Not coming to Molokai? You can still have a decorated coconut sent to friends or family via the Kalele Bookstore.
